Every four years, thousands of Special Olympics athletes from around the world come together to showcase their athletic skills and celebrate the true spirit of competition through winter sports. These Games help citizens throughout the world appreciate the values of respect and compassion, which the athletes and their supporters live by every day.
This year, 2009, the athletes and their supporters came to our home town, Boise, Idaho. Enjoy the video I created of some of the athletes I met, figure skaters and speed skaters, and supporters. Also included in the video are my personal photographs of Boise.
We hope you enjoyed visiting Idaho and invite you to return to the "City of Trees" and the "Gem State".

Have You Heard About the Scarf Project?
The 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games Scarf Project got started in 2007 before the 2008 Special Olympics Invitational Winter Games. The World Winter Games Organizing Committee (GOC) wanted to provide athletes with a gift, and in order to promote community awareness and involvement across the state of Idaho prior to the Games, created the Scarf Project.
The 2009 World Winter Games surpassed its goal of 5,000 scarves, receiving over 55,000 scarves! We saw the blue and white scarves all over our community. Read on.
